monk, a 6+ year old, tricolor border collie shown above watching a sheep cartoon on television, is responsible for bringing sheep to the fields of nevermoor farm... he needed a job! our flock of wool sheep has grown to 48 ewes and a ram. Initially the flock was of border cheviots, but now has diversified to include border leicesters producing fine yarns and mules ( cross of scottish blackface ewe with blue-faced leicester ram) producing fast growing meat lambs. all three breeds provide different training and working opportunities for border collies.
wull, on the quad, was imported as a puppy in 2011 from derek scrimgeour, a world class trainer of border collies.
both dogs are very different. monk works sheep quietly, thoughtfully and gently. wull is a bullet with only one speed, and must be constantly kept under careful watch. he is what is known as a forward dog. both dogs have been very successful at sheep dog trials!
