at nevermoor farm, near andover, ny, we strive to produce the most tender, best tasting organically raised lamb possible. our lamb is grass-fed without added hormones, antibiotics or grain. aside from a mineral salt supplement, there are no added inputs. the forage in the fields and hay bales are analyzed for mineral content, with a resulting salt mineral supplement formulated specifically to balance the nutritional requirements of the sheep grazing our pastures.
we take care in the management of both our flock and the land. our grazing program is labor intensive, our flocks are moved to fresh areas every 1-2 days. this managed rotational grazing maximizes the quality and quantity of plant growth, increases organic matter and promotes neutral soil acidity. our motto: if the soil is "sweet", the grasses are "sweet", the sheep are "sweet"! Rotational grazing provides our sheep with fresh forage at its peak, and allows us to avoid the use of chemical fertilizers and herbicides.
we are committed to providing our lambs a low-stress life; our lambs are humanely slaughtered here, they are not shipped to market or elsewhere. the stresses of shipping stimulate the production of fear hormones which affect the taste of lamb.
we are part of the natural environment and are committed to preserve it and respect it.
